How it plays

  1. Press and hold on the object. A dot grows under your finger, and a faint circle shows how big it can get in that spot.
  2. Lift your finger to place it. A quick tap places a small dot. Slide away to cancel.
  3. Keep an eye on the eye. Before it moves, it glances at its next spot: that is your cue to let go. A dot that grows in its light pops and costs one of your three lives.
  4. Reach the goal to finish the object, or keep going for bonus points. Then the object fades and only your dots stay. The likeness score says how well they draw its shape.

A dot that fits snugly against a neighbor scores double. Against two neighbors at once, it scores triple. Later levels bring more eyes and shorter warnings.

The name comes from “polka dot” and “peekaboo”.

What's inside

100 objects in five chapters, from a cup to a whale. A new chapter opens when you finish the one before it.

The colors come from A Dictionary of Color Combinations, a book the Japanese artist Sanzo Wada published in 1933 and 1934. There are 120 of his combinations to collect. Thirty are open from the start. You earn the others by finishing objects and chapters and by playing the object of the day.

The object of the day is the same for everyone, with a streak and a leaderboard on Google Play Games. Zen mode has no eye and no lives. You can also type your name, or draw a shape, and cover that in dots.

Each finished piece goes into your gallery, and you can recolor it with any palette you have.

Community gallery

Post your finished pieces, and vote between two takes on the same object. Votes and likeness decide the order. Anyone can look without an account. To post or vote, you sign in with Google Play Games and accept the community rules.

Ten languages

English, Turkish, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Japanese and Korean. The game follows your phone's language, and you can change it in Settings.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. There are no banner ads and no ads between levels. An ad plays only when you ask for one: to open a palette sooner (up to three a day) or for one more life in a run. The object of the day has no extra life. The one purchase, the Supporter pack, opens every palette and gives the extra life without the ad. Nothing you buy changes the eye or the scoring.

Do I need an account?

No. Your game stays on your phone. If you sign in to Google Play Games, it keeps a copy for your next phone. Only the community gallery needs the sign-in.

Can I play without an Android phone?

Yes, in a web browser at polkaboo.plutostudio.app/play. Your progress stays in that browser. The browser version has no community gallery and no ads.
